Docent – Docents assist with tours, greet visitors, answers questions, lead tours, set up informational tables at off-site events, and more. Training will be provided on-site by Port Columbus staff.
Living History – Living History volunteers wear Civil War clothing and portray Civil War Sailors, Marines, Civilians and other needed persons. Open to men as well as boys 12-16 years old (powder monkeys/ship’s boys). Female Living History volunteers are needed occasionally as well. Living History volunteers are needed for special events, reenactments, programs, tours, media opportunities, etc. Occasionally volunteers will travel out of town to Civil War reenactmets to represent the Museum.
Curatorial – Curatorial Services volunteers work with curatorial staff on research, library management, artifact preservation and data entry.
Maintenance – Facilities Maintenance volunteers assist with carpentry, masonry, machine work, exhibit design and construction, boat building and restoration and general maintenance of the museum and the grounds.
Visitor Services – Visitor Services volunteers work greeting visitors, helping in the gift shop, assisting with mailings, record visitor information and answer questions about the museum. You can work a regular schedule or on an on-call basis.
