CSS Albemarle

A Look Inside an Ironclad
The scene is Plymouth, NC in October, 1864, as we see the famous Confederate ironclad ship, CSS Albemarle sitting dockside. The ship is open to view inside as well; a rare opportunity to get a glimpse inside a unique craft.
The Albemarle is a classic Confederate Navy design, called a diamond hull vessel. It was 150 feet long and carried two 6.4-inch Brooke Rifles, each able to pivot and shoot out of three gunports.
Located within the ship is the Battle Theater, which permits the visitor to experience Civil War naval combat from the point of view of an ironclad ship sailor. A ship’s boy is your guide through four separate combat episodes, as he writes letters home about his experiences.
