CSI: Port Columbus – The Autopsy of John Wilkes Booth
In the wake of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, the formidable might of the US Navy was focused on preventing the escape of Booth or any of his conspirators. As a long-time advocate of the Navy, Lincoln had many friends and overwhelming support among those in the Union sea service, who made it their personal mission to see those responsible for his death brought to justice.
Booth’s conspirators, when captured, were taken to US Ironclad Monitors, which became in essence ultra-high security prisons until they were transferred for trial. Booth himself, killed while attempting to avoid capture, was taken to the Union monitor class ironclad USS Montauk for autopsy.
Join us at Port Columbus for a recreation of this investigation, as our Civil War doctor examines the infamous assassin.
